Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is UCTC membership restricted to students only ? A: The UCTC is available to both students and the general public. Everyone is welcome. We have over
100 members spanning all ages and ability levels. We encourage first timers and elite athletes alike.
Q:
Is there a reduced membership fee available if I participate in the swim training only ?
A: No, an all inclusive membership fee provides access to all training.
Q: How far should I be able
to swim before joining the UCTC ?
A:
Prospective members should have the ability to swim the freestyle stroke for at least 200metres (8 lengths of a 25m pool) continuously
in order to gain the most benefit from our swim training. The UCTC is not the best environment to learn how to swim. We recommend
swimmers sign up for swim lessons prior to joining our club if this minimum standard cannot be achieved.
Q: Will I be expected to attend all practices,
all the time ?
A: There
are no expectations from the coaches for members to attend all practices. We realize and appreciate that our busy lives
involve juggling many other tasks around our triathlon training. Members are encouraged to participate in as much (or as little)
of the training sessions as they wish.
Q: Does the UCTC coaching style utilize high pressure, no pain - no gain, tactics ?
A: Absolutely not ! We operate within a very relaxed social
forum. We thrive on a motivational group approach to our training. Close attention is paid to injury prevention. We employ
the training principles of gradual progression, adaptation and recovery to limit the risks for injury.
Q: If I miss workouts can the coaches email workouts
to me so I can make them up on my own time ?
A: UCTC membership does not include online coaching. Workouts cannot be emailed for workouts missed.
Q: Can the coaches provide customized programs
for individuals ?
A: Your membership
does not include a detailed program specific to your individual goals. We provide an excellent social club environment and
facilities for group training. We highly recommend you seek the advice of a certified triathlon coach to compliment
your UCTC training if you are looking for a program specific to your goals. That said, the UCTC coaching staff is very willing
to provide general advice and is very open to your questions.
